As the fall swings into full gear and trout fishing starts to heat up, I figured it was time to write an article on 3 essential trout fishing tips. These 3 tips will definitely result in you catching more trout. How do I know this? Because I've personally been using all of them to catch trout for more than 20 years and know for a fact that they work. These 3 essential trout fishing tips were taught to me by a person I consider to be a trout fishing master.

You might be wondering how someone is considered a "trout fishing master", at least in my mind? Simple. This man done trophy trout out of heavily fished rivers with regularity when other anglers did not think trout that large escaped in these rivers. He was a great angler and taught these 3 essential tips to me and his son before he passed on to the next level of existence. The funny thing is that none of these 3 tips are difficult or complicated to put into practice. As a matter of fact, these 3 tips are very simple yet incredibly effective.

  1. Always Use Gang Hooks – My fishing mentor was a believer in the use of gang hooks. Gang hooks are simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem, thus enabling a live worm to be presented in a totally natural manner. Not only in a totally natural manner, but when a live worm is rigged on a set of gang hooks, the hooks are all but invisible. Do not you think that this might be an advantage to you as an angler? The bottom line is that using gang hooks is the first of these 3 essential trout fishing tips.
  2. Pay Attention To Nature – When I say the word "nature", I'm specifically referring to the weather & moon. The weather and moon have an incredible impact on fishing, and the more you know about the weather and moon, the more fish that you will catch. You see, we want to be fishing when the fish are the most active, and the fish are the most active during certain times of the days and month. Understanding this is integral to your trout fishing success. The bottom line is that the second tip is to pay attention to nature and specifically the weather & moon.
  3. Be As Efficient As Possible – This "trout fishing master" that I'm referring to believed in being as efficient as possible while fishing. His theory was simple: The more time that can be spent with your line in the water, the better. So we do not want to be wasting valuable fishing time with menial tasks. This is why he created the first bait bag. A Bait Bag is simply a small bag that carries your live worms while fishing. This way your bait is always literal "at your fingertips" waiting to be used and there's no time wasted baiting up. Retractors are another way to be much more efficient as an angler.

These 3 essential trout fishing tips will result in catching more fish. How am I so sure of this? Because they have all been working for me for more than 20 years and I know they will work for you as well. And do not forget, nothing will make you a better angler like practice. There is no substitute for spending time on the water.
